Mitsui decided to lease a beautiful space on the top floor of Cassini House in St James’ that included great natural light, a stunning lightwell and a high spec CAT A fit out. The brief was to create an impressive, contemporary office space with a specification matching the building & its prominent address that would wow visitors and oversees staff as well as providing a generous & comfortable working environment for London staff that included different activity based working solutions.
As a whole the design was kept architectural with classic furniture pieces selected to create a timeless design. Detail design included nods to Japanese architecture & design in keeping with Mitsui’s heritage & culture whilst still fitting with a West London address. The intention for the front of house was to move away from the traditional concept of a reception and instead a welcoming lounge style space is provided. This also acts as a space for touchdown working & breakout for visitors. The space is kept light and open with a neutral palette and lots of glazing.
For the tea point / breakout design we wanted to create an environment that felt different to the workspace, a calmer, more relaxing environment. Green was a prominent colour in achieving this and more residential style furniture was chosen. The workspace itself needed to be a light & warm environment moving away from the a corporate office design and so included lots of oak and even a tree!
