Solera Holdings Appoint Maris Interiors to Design & Build their European HQ

Reason for Appointing Maris Interiors

Based on a strong existing relationship with Solera, Maris Interiors was appointed on a negotiated procurement basis with an external Quantity Surveyor onboard to check rates and commercial approach. Solera were relocating from two buildings into a new EMEA Headquarters accommodating 500 people. They were impressed with how we managed multiple stakeholders, incorporated their new brand and were able to manage very different requirements given the nature of the businesses merging. Our relationship has since developed further with our 2nd project in Leeds commencing soon and two further projects located in Berlin and Zeist.

Scope of Services Provided

Our initial appointment was to develop the project brief through a Workplace Study, meet with and incorporate their new brand identity and global standards around new ways of working. We had many months of collaboration having to engage with a steering committee of 14, representing many different teams and user groups creating design concepts to meet a very varied set of requirements. Our agreed scope included creating a significant new atrium within the building connecting ground and first floor with a new staircase, able to accommodate 400 people in an auditorium style. The AV brief was extensive and required a diligent approach to coordination during our detailed design phase and then once again in construction. Maris Interiors managed every aspect of concept design, detailed design, structural design, mechanical and electrical design, furniture, security, catering and AV coordination.

Innovative Construction Approach

We agreed an enabling works package to create the opening in the floor, this reduced disruption, costs and programme. We introduced time lapsed photography and daily reporting to all stakeholders both here and abroad. We accelerated our original construction programme and managed to improve this by 2 weeks due to better sequencing and a more “rapid” approach to the partitioning. We took coordination responsibility for those contractors employed by Solera direct, being AV, security and catering. We managed all variations and changes within the contract sum and even showed a saving against our contracted value.

Managing Multiple Stakeholders

We had to manage many expectations from various Stakeholders, whilst following the correct protocols and governance as set out by Solera’s corporate headquarters. This called for regular meetings and updates regarding the development of the Design Guidelines with constant checking and signing off with Brand, Compliance, Customers and their Senior Management Team.

Working as a Coherent Team

Maris Interiors “hand pick” each team and team member based on the project, its dynamics, the Client team and external consultants. We do this to ensure there is a mutual respect and understanding, which is important on every project.
